  • What does it do?
We use a sophisticated light energy source for permanent hair reduction. The light is absorbed by the pigment in your hair, which effectively disables the hair follicle. The ProWave can remove hair from the face or body, or for example, the arms, underarms, legs, back, and even particularly sensitive areas like the upper lip.

How many treatments will I need?
Hair develops in phases and we can only treat hair in its active, visible stage. Therefore, the number of treatments depends on how quickly the untreated hairs appear. For significant clearance, most patients require a course of four to six treatments which are spread at least six to eight weeks apart.

    Is it totally permanent?
Yes. The hair we treat with ProWave will not grow back and patients can expect an 85 per cent reduction in hair after four to six treatments. As we age our hair patterns change so this does not prevent the possibility of new hair growth over the years.

How is your treatment different from other clinics?
Our ProWave technology is effective on a wide range of skin types (skin types I to V) and is also one of the fastest. Shorter treatment times provide a benefit to our patients, especially when they want their back or legs treated. It is permanent, safe and effective.

How does it differ from electrolysis?
Electrolysis involves inserting a needle into individual hair follicles and delivering an electrical charge to them one at a time. Therefore, it can be costly, painful and time consuming to do more than a small area. Our technology, on the other hand, delivers light energy to hundreds of follicles at a time, which makes it for treating large as well as small areas.

How long does each treatment take?
It depends, of course, on the size of the area, but it typically takes 30 minutes to treat the upper and lower legs and 20 minutes for a man’s back.

    What does it feel like?
Patients will feel a series of short snaps, somewhat like a rubber band snapping, but no local anaesthesia or pain medication is necessary. Sensitivity varies from person to person and some people may opt for a topical numbing cream.

Do I need to grow the hair out before my treatment?
No. In fact, we ask that you shave beforehand since the treatment is targeting the hair follicle itself - not just the hair.

    Is it safe?
The beauty of our ProWave technology is that it effectively destroys the hair itself without harming the surrounding skin. You may be a little red afterwards, but that typically goes away in a matter of hours. As with all medical procedures there is a slight degree of risk and we will discuss this with you thoroughly when you come in for your consultation.

    How much does it cost?
This depends totally on the size of the area and the number of treatments we estimate are needed to achieve clearance. If you’d like to make an appointment for a consultation, we can give you an idea as to the number of treatments and the price. We do offer various payment plans and if you choose to go ahead with treatment we will subtract the consultation fee from the treatment fees.

    Can anyone have it done?
A good candidate is someone with pale to medium skin tone who wants to treat hair that is light brown or darker. No laser or light-based system can treat blonde, white, red or grey hair since there is no melanin in it to absorb the light. We will evaluate if you are an appropriate candidate at the time of your consultation.
